Most consumers know Virgil Abloh as the former member of Kanye West’s entourage whose achievements have allowed him to gain separation from his good friend and mentor. Not only was he able to get his own label OFF-WHITE off the ground, he’s also emerged as one of the most in-demand collaborators working on the scene today. Most significantly, Abloh’s reimagining of the iconic Air Jordan 1 indicated a unique ability to deconstruct the past while creating something new. That knack for making connections across different generations was no doubt a key factor in Virgil’s latest gig: taking over Kim Jones’ former position as the artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton. Michael Burke, chief executive of Louis Vuitton, said as much when he observed, “Virgil is incredibly good at creating bridges between the classic and the zeitgeist of the moment.”

Look for Abloh’s first collection for Louis Vuitton to debut in June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.
